Riverside walkway

Due to public safety concerns, Network Rail proposed to close the main access route from Matlock Bath to the Heights of Abraham. This put the future of the estate and heritage attraction in jeopardy. Steve Keeling of Monumental has worked for the Heights for many years and developed a proposal for an alternative route along a riverside walkway. The site posed numerous challenges due to the route being enclosed between the railway embankment and the river. Consultation with Network Rail followed and Steve's concept of a raised walkway was adopted. Construction was undertaken by Network Rail with Monumental acting on behalf of the client’s team to bring the project to fruition.

The new raised walkway separates vehicles and pedestrians, providing a safe route from Matlock Bath and the railway station to The Heights and joins other local footpaths from the village to provide access for all.
